This in-depth nursing course focuses on high-yield neurological and critical care topics essential for NCLEX success and real-world nursing practice. It provides a clear and structured review of major neurological disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, stroke (ischemic and hemorrhagic), multiple sclerosis, seizures, myasthenia gravis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, and increased intracranial pressure.
Students will learn disease pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic findings, nursing priorities, and evidence-based treatment strategies. Special emphasis is placed on recognizing neurological emergencies such as autonomic dysreflexia, neurogenic shock, and different stages of shock to ensure rapid and effective nursing interventions.
The course also strengthens neurological assessment skills, including Glasgow Coma Scale, cranial nerve examination, pupillary response, visual acuity testing, posturing differences (decorticate vs decerebrate), and calculation of mean arterial pressure (MAP) and cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP).
Pediatric and newborn neurological assessments are included, covering infant reflexes such as rooting, sucking, palmar grasp, and comprehensive newborn reflex evaluation. A complete head-to-toe assessment framework is provided to help nurses confidently assess patients across all age groups.
By the end of this course, learners will be able to assess neurological status accurately, identify life-threatening conditions early, and answer NCLEX-style questions with confidence and clinical judgment.
