This course offers a comprehensive overview of human development from infancy through adulthood. Students begin with Erikson’s eight stages of psychosocial development, examining how identity and social relationships evolve across the lifespan. Prenatal development is explored alongside early brain and motor development, highlighting critical periods for growth. Cognitive development is covered in detail through Piaget’s stages, including sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational stages, and Vygotsky’s concept of the Zone of Proximal Development. The course addresses attachment and bonding in early life, including the role of parenting styles according to Baumrind. Moral development is analyzed through Kohlberg’s stages, while adolescence is examined in terms of puberty, social identity, and the development of sexual orientation. Students also explore adulthood, aging, and the psychological challenges that arise in later life. Practical review questions reinforce understanding, helping learners apply developmental theory to real-world scenarios. By the end of this course, students will gain a solid understanding of how biological, cognitive, and social factors interact to shape human development across the entire lifespan.
