The role focuses on formulation development, performance evaluation, cost optimization, and field support to ensure drilling fluids meet operational, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Research & Development
- Develop and improve water-based, oil-based, and synthetic-based drilling fluid formulations
- Conduct laboratory testing to evaluate rheology, filtration, thermal stability, lubricity, shale inhibition, and fluid loss control
- Research and evaluate new chemicals, additives, and technologies for drilling fluid applications
- Design and execute experimental programs to improve drilling performance and reduce non-productive time (NPT)
Testing & Evaluation
- Perform API and ISO standard tests on drilling fluids
- Analyze performance under simulated downhole conditions (HPHT, contamination, aging)
- Interpret test data and prepare technical reports and recommendations
- Benchmark products against competitors and industry standards
Field & Technical Support
- Provide technical support to field engineers and operations teams
- Troubleshoot drilling fluid issues such as wellbore instability, stuck pipe, losses, and contamination
- Support fluid system selection for different formations and drilling conditions
- Participate in field trials and post-well performance evaluations
Documentation & Compliance
- Prepare technical datasheets, formulations, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations
- Support product qualification and regulatory approval processes
