The Strategic Communications Lead is the strategic brain of the campaign and plays a central role in shaping the campaign’s vision, logic, and structure. The role is responsible for translating complex objectives into a clear, coherent, and behavior-change-driven communication strategy.
This role leads the conceptualization and strategic design of an integrated campaign.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Campaign Design
Lead the development of the overall campaign vision and strategic approach for the campaign.
Design a clear campaign logic linking objectives, target audiences, messaging, channels, and expected behavior change outcomes.
2. Behavioral Change & Messaging Framework
Develop a behavior change communication framework informed by behavioral science principles.
Integrate insights and recommendations from the project’s behavioral science consultant into campaign design, messaging, and channel selection.
3. Campaign Planning
Campaign objectives and approach:
- Target groups and segmentation
- Messaging strategy
- High-level channel strategy
- Phasing of the campaign
4. Channel & Media Strategy (High-Level)
Define a high-level channel strategy aligned with campaign objectives and audiences, including:
Traditional media (TV, radio, OOH):
- Digital and social media
- Community-based channels
- Partnerships and institutional channels
- Ensure channel choices are evidence-based, context-appropriate, and aligned with behavior change goals.
5. Coordination & Alignment
Work closely with the Project Director, M&E Specialist, Creative Director, and other team members to ensure strategic alignment.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Health, Social Sciences, Marketing, Environmental Studies, or a related field
- Master’s degree is an asset
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in:
- Strategic communications
- Public awareness or behavior change campaigns
- Demonstrated experience designing campaigns related to: Public health, Environment, Climate change, Social behavior change
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills
- Solid understanding of behavior change communication (BCC / SBCC)
- Ability to translate technical or policy content into clear public messaging
- Excellent writing and structuring skills (reports, strategies, frameworks)
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams
- Strong stakeholder coordination and communication skills
- High level of cultural sensitivity and contextual awareness
