Job Title: Material Manager
Department: Procurement & Materials
Reports To: Director of Finance / Financial Controller
Location: Movenpick Hotel – Abraj Al Bait, Makkah
Hotel Brand: Movenpick - Managed by Accor Hotels.
Position Summary:
The Material Manager plays a vital role in overseeing and managing all aspects related to procurement, storage, inventory control, and distribution of materials and supplies across the hotel. This role ensures that all purchasing and receiving activities are conducted in line with hotel policies, financial guidelines, and local regulations while maintaining high standards of cost control, transparency, and supplier relationship management.
This position is critical in supporting operations during high-demand periods, such as religious seasons (Hajj, Ramadan, Umrah), and ensuring timely material availability for all departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the entire procurement process from requisition to purchase order issuance.
- Ensure cost-effective sourcing while maintaining quality standards.
- Negotiate contracts and maintain vendor relationships to ensure timely delivery and favorable terms.
- Monitor compliance with the hotel's procurement policies and Accor guidelines.
- Coordinate with user departments to ensure timely supply of requested materials.
Inventory & Store Management:
- Maintain accurate stock levels through regular inventory audits.
- Supervise receiving, storing, and issuing of goods as per hotel procedures.
- Ensure storage areas are clean, organized, and comply with hygiene and safety standards.
- Manage slow-moving or obsolete inventory and suggest corrective actions.
- Maintain the Materials Control System (MC) and ensure proper documentation of all transactions.
Financial Oversight:
- Work closely with the Finance Department on budgeting and monthly cost reporting.
- Monitor purchase costs and report on cost variances.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement procurement efficiencies.
Compliance & Reporting:
- Ensure all documentation (LPOs, delivery notes, invoices) are properly recorded, verified, and filed.
- Support internal and external audits related to inventory and procurement.
- Prepare weekly and monthly materials reports for management.
- Always refer to applicable regulations, and implement and share an ethical approach with its suppliers.
- Engage customers of Accor-branded hotels and venues to reinforce the positive effects of our actions.
- Reinforce the Accor integrity line as a tool that the group uses to uphold its values and bring them to life on a daily basis.
- Use the Accor's procurement tool (Futurelog) to ensure the hotel's obligation with the brand compliance.
Team Leadership:
- Supervise storekeepers and receiving clerks.
- Conduct regular training on inventory handling, safety, and system usage.
- Ensure high team performance and ethical practices within the materials department.
Working Conditions:
- Fast-paced, high-volume hotel environment, especially during peak pilgrimage seasons.
- Role may require extended hours or shift work depending on operational needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a similar role in a 4- or 5-star hotel environment.
- Strong knowledge of inventory and procurement systems (e.g., Materials Control, Sun Systems).
- Familiarity with HACCP standards, Saudi local market, and customs regulations is a plus.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
- Fluent in English; Arabic is an advantage.
- Must be based in or willing to relocate to Makkah.
