In light of the Egyptian Banking Sector Reform Program and as part of the recommendations of the international experts through the Technical Assistance Program received from the European Union, the Regulations Sector was established in mid-2007 as one of the sectors under Banking Supervision within Financial Stability aiming for the following:

• Complying with international best practices and regulations while considering the nature of the Egyptian banking sector and responding promptly to market developments.
• Availing all prudential regulations to interested parties, whether inside or outside the Central Bank of Egypt.
• Ensuring the clarity of the rules and regulations issued by the Central Bank of Egypt.
• Ensuring the consistency of the regulations issued by the Central Bank of Egypt with the Egyptian legal and accounting framework and the strategic directions.

In addition to the above, the following mandates were assigned at a later stage to the regulations sector:

• Issuance of Central Bank of Egypt's initiatives.
• Coordination for signing Memorandums of understanding (MoUs) in the field of Banking Supervision with other regulatory bodies.
