JOB PURPOSE:

The Category Manager is responsible for implementing and optimizing category strategies to drive growth, profitability, and market share for the respective category within the Food Service (HORECA) sector. This role ensures effective execution through supplier management, market analysis, pricing, cross-functional collaboration, and alignment with corporate objectives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Category Strategy Execution & Planning:

  • Implement category strategies defined in alignment with the Head of Categories to achieve revenue, profit, and market share targets within the respective category.
  • Contribute insights and recommendations to refine category strategies based on market analysis and performance data.
  • Align execution plans with the overall company objectives and sales targets established by the Head of Categories.

2. Product Portfolio Management

  • Manage the product range to ensure a balanced and profitable portfolio within the respective category.
  • Introduce new products based on market demand, customer requirements, and strategic directives from the Head of Categories.
  • Ensure optimal availability and quality of products across the Food Service (HORECA) sector.
  • Source products from reputable suppliers following the SOPs of onboarding suppliers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure a competitive and diverse product range.
  • Ensure product availability and fulfillment of contractual commitments with customers for the respective product/category.

3. Supplier Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to secure competitive pricing and promotional support.
  • Abide by contracts terms and conditions with suppliers to ensure mutually beneficial partnerships.
  • Monitor supplier performance and ensure adherence to quality standards as directed by the Head of Categories.
  • Conduct regular market visits to monitor category performance and undertake supplier visits as required to support business needs.

4. Sales & Marketing Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the sales team to drive product penetration and growth within the HORECA sector.
  • Provide training and support to sales teams on product knowledge, positioning, and promotional activities.
  • Collaborate with marketing teams to create promotional campaigns and product launches tailored for the Food Service industry.
  • Align with Finance team on marketing budgets and expenses.
  • Partner with Division Managers and sales teams to ensure achievement of monthly sales targets and annual budgets.

5. Pricing & Profitability Management:

  • Implement pricing strategies developed in collaboration with the Head of Categories and the Finance team.
  • Monitor category performance, conduct margin analysis, and implement corrective actions where necessary.
  • Ensure consistent pricing across various channels within the HORECA sector.

6. Supply Chain & Market Planning Alignment:

  • Collaborate with the Supply Chain and Market Planning teams to ensure efficient inventory management and availability of products.
  • Collaborate with the Supply Chain and Market Planning teams to forecast demand accurately and coordinate with supply chain teams to optimize stock levels, minimizing stock-outs or overstock situations.
  • Work with market planners to anticipate seasonal demand shifts and align procurement strategies accordingly.
  • Monitor order fulfillment rates and address any issues affecting supply continuity.

7. Market Analysis and Insights

  • Conduct regular market research and analysis to identify emerging trends, growth opportunities, and potential threats.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations on category performance, market share, and competitor analysis.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to the Head of Categories to support strategic decision-making.

EDUCTION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.
  2. Minimum 3 years of progressive category management experience in the Food Service or FMCG sector.
